AGUAYO: A rectangular fabric made by the Aymaras, which can be made from sheep, alpaca, or vicuña wool and is dyed with natural dyes from plants and insects from the region where it was made. The AGUAYO is the cradle of the indigenous people, as babies are carried in this fabric. It is also a symbol of effort and work, the fruit of labor and the earth, Mother Earth, which so beautifully evokes the maternal face and heart of GOD.
The AGUAYO summarizes and symbolizes the entire life of the people, as through its colors and designs, the indigenous people tell the story of their community.
Aymaras: An indigenous people originating from South America who have inhabited the Andean plateau of Lake Titicaca (located in Bolivia and Peru) since pre-Columbian times.
