Curiosity: The wealth of Potosí was so great that in the book Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes created the expression "vale um Potosí", which meant something that was worth a fortune. By 1595 the mine had become the largest silver producer in the world. At the time of Don Quixote, it had approximately 150 thousand inhabitants, being the second most populous city in the world (after Paris) and one of the richest, due to the exploitation of silver sent to Spain.
